This work, requested by the IEA Working Party on Fossil Fuels, involved development of roadmaps for clean coal technologies (CCTs) and CO2 capture technologies in OECD and non-OECD countries. The report outlines the current status of coal utilisation technologies and of the methods that can be used for CO2 capture from them and describes the status of a number of example projects. Development programmes and roadmaps in different parts of the world are reviewed, and the new roadmaps are then developed. There is a review of the coal sectors in three example non-OECD countries (China, India and South Africa) to enable technology transfer and knowledge sharing needs to be included in their roadmaps.
